Pope Had A Girlfriend

It seems that in former years, before he became a priest, Pope Francis (Jorge Bergoglio as he then was) had a girlfriend.

However, he was but 12 at the time and she rebuffed him.

Amalia Damonte claims that a 12 year old Jorge gave her a letter declaring his undying love for her. She is quoted by the Independent:

“He wrote me a letter telling me that one day he would like to marry me.

He said that if I didn’t say yes, he would have to become a priest. Luckily for him, I said no!”

All of this fits snugly into Pope Francis's "man of the people" credentials being carefully burnished by the Vatican spin machine.
